Random Thoughts

Jobs - We have accepted jobs near Winthrop, WA for the summer. We will be working at Silverline Resort (they have a web site), Laura in the store, reservations, checkins, and I will be doing lawn maintenance, security, whatever. 20-30 hours a week each, will leave time for sightseeing, rest, etc. Starting Jun 15th until after Labor Day.

President Obama – Ran on the slogan “Change we can believe in”. What kind of change is it when the majority of his appointees are from the Clinton & Bush administrations?

Politicians who cheat on their taxes – Why are they soooo sorry when they get caught? Why aren’t they going to JAIL!

Casino Freebies – Have to say we enjoy the freebies, slot tournaments, gift giveaways, free buffets. All it takes is some time, of which we have lots.

The Fab – Group which plays only Beatles music, free entertainment at Marilyn’s Lounge, Eastside Cannery. One member is an old friend of Rich’s, they are GOOD! Check out their web site “TheFab.com”

The Media – Why does the (left leaning) media continue to treat Obama with kid gloves, but hound Sara Palin’s family?

Global Warming – Does anyone in Michigan really believe it after the past couple of winters? Oh, weather in Las Vegas has been pretty good, riding the scooter to work every day.

Obama’s Puppy – Has anybody noticed that Obama’s puppy is usually standing close by when they appear in public? – Oh wait, that’s VP Biden, on a short leash!

Feel free to comment on any/or all of the above. Let’s have some FUN!

Thoughts on Using the Computer for Communications

Emails - Easy to communicate. But, it sure is hard to remember to update people once in a while, and darn, it's also hard to remember who you have told what.

Web site – So we started the web site with the purpose of keeping people informed on what we were doing, where we were going. I have failed miserably in putting pictures, etc. on the site. But….I have managed to keep our itinerary current with our plans, and lo, how many times have we heard “where are you now, or where are you going to be ?????.”

Blog – Granddaughters started theirs’ and Oh what a blessing to see pictures of our Great-grandchildren as they grow. And the blogs, with the ability to comment, provides a great opportunity for back & forth exchanges. And we have done postings with the idea of getting an exchange of ideas, “thoughts of the week”, and just general news. Some have done that, but, I must admit I am disappointed at the lack of response on many of them. Perhaps I am guilty too.

Facebook – So we were encouraged to join Facebook, the opportunity to connect with “friends”, exchange ideas, thoughts, and post pictures, etc. Well, we certainly have found many friends, relatives, and have posted some pictures, and looked at others’ pictures. But, I haven’t figured Facebook out – see everyone becoming friends with others, adding as relative, etc., but actual exchange of ideas, thoughts? In fact, when I answered someone’s question, it was there, and then disappeared! Postings from several days ago all of a sudden pop up, why? Confusing!

SO WHAT TO DO? Well, until someone can come up with a better answer, guess we will continue as is. Historically, most of us have been BAD with phone calls, letters, even emails, so at least we are maintaining some contact. We certainly know a lot more about our family than we did a couple of years ago.

Dutchess!!

So today, I'm just going to post some pictures of Dutchess. She has been just a GREAT partner in our past several years. Yes, she is getting older, but still continues to give us a lot of love.

Today, one of the neighbors came to visit, we didn't even let them get together

The last picture is Dutchess and Leslie's dog Scarlett. And yes, Dutchess let Scarlett know who was boss of the house

Laura's Birthday Party!

February 5th, Laura's Birthday! Time to party. First we went out to dinner at Carve, the steak house at Eastside Cannery. We then went into Marilyn's Lounge, where "The Fab" was playing.

We were joined by Leslie, Renee', & many other followers of The Fab, and their Beatles music.

As you can see, we even had a Birthday Cake!

The video is The Fab singing "Birthday" to Laura. Though the latter part is fairly dark, you should be able to recognize a couple dancers.

Hockey game, other items

Yep, Hockey in Las Vegas! Last night we went to see the Las Vegas Wranglers defeat the Bakersfield Condors 5-1, and since the home team scored 5 goals, everyone in attendance got a coupon good for a free taco at Del Taco. Good game (from the home team view), team looked much better than the past couple of times we saw them play. And YES, I wore my "WINGS" shirt! During the game, I reflected on how the game of hockey is played, and decided on my "Thought of the Week" for today.

After the game, we went down to the "Strip" to watch "The Fab", a Beatles tribute band. Great time, busy, Super Bowl Weekend in Las Vegas! Gee, got to bed just before 4:00am, and then over to Samstown for Champagne Brunch this morning.

Now, time for a nap, before watching the Super Bowl.

Postscript:

Darn, as I was finishing this posting, the Detroit Pistons blew an 8 point lead at the end of the 3rd period, and lost their game. Looks like the pistons record in Jan was 6 - 9, and now today? 6 losses in a row at home? And they were looking so good in Dec.

And the Red Wings - now 5 losses in a row, even losing to "Dallas"? Ouch!

Sure hope the experience of the Lions isn't rubbing off on all the Detroit teams. :-) Can we say, "Time to change allegiance"?
