What a year! As with last year, we started out in Las Vegas, Jerry working part-time for the County, visiting the casinos, following "The Fab", and enjoying the Las Vegas weather. Cooler winter than some, but still better than some places. But this time we left 1st of April. Friends Rick & Pam found us jobs in Massachusetts, here's our chance (and reason) to go East!
3500 miles & 5 weeks to get there, so lots of time to visit family & friends on our way. Visits in AZ, NM, Deb & family in TX, Cindy & family in IN, the Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH, and Niagara Falls! We arrived at Pine Acres Family Camping Resort, Oakham, MA the middle of May for work. Oakham is about 50 miles west of Boston, the area was not at all what we expected of MA. Rick & Pam continued on to the Portland, ME area to another park for the summer.
We really enjoyed our time at Pine Acres, Jerry worked as a ranger & on the gate, Laura worked most of the time in the store/restaurant. Being in MA meant we had lots of historical sites to visit - Lexington, Concord, Salem, Cape Cod & Plymouth. Friends Jean & Dick from Michigan came to visit, and we visited Boston together - what fun!
One problem, July 19th, Jerry had a mild stroke - 2 days in the hospital & 10 days in an acute rehab facility. Another month of out-patient therapy and able to return to work, but sightseeing was less than we had planned.
Leaving MA the 21st of Sept got us to Marion, IN for granddaughter Melissa's wedding! Nearly all the family was there and it was a Great time. What a beautiful wedding! A few days in TN, visit to Deb & Family in TX, and back to Las Vegas.
Yep, a good year, and there are more details on parts of the year in earlier posts on this blog.
So the future? Doctor's visits were all good, given the OK to travel. Boss wanted Jerry to return to his part-time job - ain't going to happen! We really missed our friends in the RV parks the past 2 years, so we are traveling again, currently in Pahrump, NV. Hope to see many of you soon.
We also want to remember the reason for the season, the link below is our contribution.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Trip Across USA
After an interesting summer in MA, 9/21 we left Pine Acres Resort. The first leg would be thru CT, NY, PA & OH to Marion, IN. Taking our time, we stayed multiple nights at some RV parks. While in Wapakoneta, OH, we met friends Bea & Charlie in Findley for lunch and a great visit. Last time we had seen them was '08 at the Class Reunion.

In Marion, we had the pleasure of seeing our granddaughter Melissa get married on Oct 1! What a Great week it was. All our kids, most of our grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother, sisters, and other extended family were there. Since we parked our rig right in front of the house, we had a ringside seat of all that went on. The beautiful wedding went off without a hitch, and the chance to visit the next day with those that stayed was super. Cindy & Joe, you should be proud of how the week went!
Oct 7 we headed to TN where we spent a few days just off the Natchaz Trace, relaxing and exploring the area. I should mention at this time, most of our trip thru PA, OH, IN, KY & TN, we kept hearing how dry it had been. Fall colors were disappointing, lawns were brown and when we saw farmers working their fields, huge clouds of dust were in the air.
On to TX to Deb & John's. Seeing Jason, Sara, & Cami who didn't make the wedding was fun. Soccer games, watching football, cheering on the Rangers, a 50th birthday party all made our stay fun & too short.
Then headed to Vegas. The horse was on the way to the barn, we covered 1230 miles in 3 days. Too many, but no problems. Found out morning of the 3rd day that the new bridge at Hoover Dam had just opened, so saved miles & time. Actually pretty disappointing, sides are so high we couldn't see the dam, even though we were in the truck. And we had no view of the river from the roadway as we approached the bridge, no sense of how high we were. The towers & suspension cables are all gone, just a flat bridge roadway.
We are doing Dr appointments, having trailer serviced, etc. Expect to be back on the road soon, stay tuned.

The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly
One of my all-time favorite movies, and with out question - my favorite music!
Ever wonder how they did the music? Some of you are too young to remember this 60s Classic, but seeing them do the music - Wow!
This is fantastic. Who needs all that techie stuff?

Long Over-Due Update
The following is from the letter I sent last week to UMass Hospital in Worcester, MA. It will give all a sense of what Laura & I went thru over the past month.
Around Midnight on July 18th, I went to the ER at Memorial Hospital. I had numbness/tingling feelings in my right face, arm & hand. Blood work, chest x-ray and CAT scan were done. Around 3:00 the nurse came in, said I was going to be admitted, then at 3:30, said I was going home. "Info on your diagnosis is being printed out, call your personal physician in the morning".
The doctor never came back to see me, the diagnosis was "Meralgia Paresthetica". Upon reading the info, MP symptoms are in the thighs, my symptoms were face & arm/hand.
Around Noon the next day, the 19th, I went to the ER at UMass, told them what had happened. Several tests were done, including another CAT scan, and finally about Midnight, an MRI disclosed I had suffered a stroke.
I was lucky, a mild stroke. After 2 days at UMass and 9 days at Fairlawn Rehab, I am walking normally, but still have numbness on the right side of my body. And have no touch sensation in my right hand.
The reason for this letter is to encourage UMass to address the following issues:
1. I entered the ER with classic stroke symptoms, but was diagnosed with MP
2. The doctor never came back to see me, left it to a nurse to print out the info.
3. After returning to the hospital, still took 12 hours to do an MRI which disclosed the stroke. During that 12 hours, the numbness did start moving down into my right leg.
This is basically what happened. I did have a couple of weeks of out-patient rehab, but have been released to return to work. I can print, but cannot control my right hand to write. If you have any questions, feel free to call me, my phone works just fine!
So now what? We will be leaving Mass the 21st, going to Indiana for Granddaughter Melissa's wedding, then probably to Vegas to see our regular doctors. And then....No Work. Time to visit the SW parks & visit with the many friends we have made over the past few years. So let us know your itinerary so we can make plans to meet! Hope to see many of you soon!

This Just Might Work!
Let's put Seniors in jail, and the criminals in a nursing home!
This way, "we" seniors would have access to showers, hobbies, and walks, receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs, etc.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance. Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes, and bring meals and snacks to their cell. They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool, and education, simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on request.
Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.
Each senior could have a PC, TV, radio, and daily phone calls
There would be a board of directors, to hear complaints, and the guards/nurses would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.
The "criminals", on the other hand, would get cold food, be left all alone, and unsupervised. Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week.
Live in a tiny room, and pay $5000 per month, and have little hope of ever getting out.
Hmmmmmm, kinda' makes you stop and think, doesn't it?

Grizzly Adams, Clara Barton
This posting is for my sister, Janet.
Do you remember "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams", a 1972 novel, a 1974 film, and the NBC TV series? Do you know about the "real" Grizzly Adams?
Born in Medway, MA, Adams spent many years in the mountain ranges of the U.S. west (mainly CA) living around animals and sometimes capturing them for zoos. His famous companion was a bear named "Ben" (short for Benjamin Franklin), who died in a zoo that Adams opened in San Francisco in the late 1850s. Adams died while on tour with P.T. Barnum in 1860. He was buried in nearby Charlton, MA, his tombstone paid for by P.T. Barnum.

Also in nearby North Oxford is the Clara Barton Birthplace Museum, operated as part of the Barton Center for Diabetes Education, a humantarian project established in her honor to educate and support children with diabetes and their families.

Clara Barton was known as the "angel of the battlefield" during the Civil War, and is best remembered for organizing the American Red Cross, and serving as it's first President.

Maine Lobster
So it was time to go to Maine, and visit friends Rick & Pam. The drive up was very nice, but much like Michigan, all you see is trees! They are only about 3 miles from the ocean, just south of Portland, ME.
While there, we drove out to Old Orchard Beach, which has the amusement park, beach, and pier out into the ocean.

Eating Across Texas
One thing you find out as you travel the USA, you just never know where you will find a good
place to eat. On our trip East, after going through El Paso on Sunday, we needed some lunch. Not much in that part of Texas, we pulled into Sierra Blanca, a small town that had seen better days, many boarded up buildings. On the far edge of town (actually had to turn around at that point), we see Michael's. Doesn't look like much, but Oh, the Food was GOOD.

The next day, as we approached Big Spring, TX, saw a billboard for "Hog Heaven BBQ House".
Ok, we are hungry, and like BBQ. Again, doesn't look like much, but BUSY. The BBQ brisket is to die for - so tender & tasty. Turns out they have a Party Barn across the street & do catering. So we can recommend either place for any one traveling on 10 or 20 in Texas.
Oh, and as a little add-on, here is a picture of Rich & Leslie, as they set off on Leslie's first ride on the motorcycle!

I'm Tired, etc.
I got 2 email forwards from friends yesterday, that I just CAN'T ignore. Both quoted a retired Massachusetts State Senator's blog posting from Feb, 2009. It still applies today. Here is the link to his blog, http://tartanmarine.blogspot.com/2009/02/robert.html
Memorial Day Weekend was hectic, park was full, lots of activities going on. Pretty quiet now, should be until the kids are out of school. Then the summer FUN begins. I am primarily doing the gate, and some Ranger patrols, Laura is working mostly in the Store.
Still haven't done any sightseeing, but will soon.

Pine Acres Family Camping Resort
So we have completed our 1st week of work in MA, now looking forward to the Mad-House of Memorial Day Weekend. To see where we are, check out this link: http://www.pineacresresort.com/
In all honesty, I have to say this area is NOT what we expected. Thought Pine Acres would be a little oasis surrounded by a Metro Area. Not even close. Thousands of acres of wooded land, lots of lakes & streams running through, mixed in with several small villages, towns. Most of the Villages show established dates early to mid 1700s, and MANY big old homes, along with village squares, etc. NO big housing developments that we have seen. Roads are mostly narrow, winding, 2 lane - with 30 to 40 MPH speed limits. Takes 3/4 of an hour to go 15 miles.
Nearest grocery store, 7 miles, 15 to 20 minutes. Wal-Mart and like, near Worcester (Woo-ster), 3/4 of an hour drive.
We LOVE it!
More later!

Now In Indiana
Our time in TX just went too fast. Deb took a couple of days off work, and Mom & daughter went "shopping"! Sat John cooked ribs for dinner, Mmm Good. Pattie & Domenica drove up and we had a Great visit. It was sooo good to see them.
We managed to watch Deb & Sara play soccer, Jason play softball. John got the hot tub running, and Sat night saw about 6 people enjoying it after dark. Pictures will follow.
Sunday we visited Crossroads Winery. Deb had attended a private party there, and helped bottle some wine. It was located in a warehouse, boy did it look different on the inside. Wine was pretty good too, we stocked up on some of it.
After that, we drove to McKinney to visit fellow Chesaning grad Harold Mitas & wife Sue. They have spent the past 5 years developing Mitas Hill Vineyards, the grape vines are really looking great. They are NOT planning a winery, are really interested in the growing of grapes. A Great visit, real education, look forward to seeing them again in the future.
Monday saw us back on the road. Stop overnight in N Little Rock, in sight of Clinton's Library & Museum, no we did not visit. Arrived at Cindy & Joe's in Marion, IN yesterday, just over 1000 miles in 3 days. Time to rest!

Yay! On The Road.
Where does the time go? My last post talked about less than 2 weeks of work left. Since then, I have completed my work, Rich had a nice going away BBQ for us, we made a visit to Death Valley, and 2 weeks ago today, we pulled out of Las Vegas. Hopefully, you have seen some of the pictures Rich posted on Facebook.
After a night in Bullhead City, AZ, we reached Camp Verde, AZ, to meet up with friends Rick & Pam, Jerry & Karen. 4 days & nights of eating, sightseeing, visiting, playing games, and, Oh ya, drinking. What fun!
Monday, the 12th, we stopped in Chandler to meet Harrison friends Bill & Maryann for lunch, then on to Benson, AZ.
More friends. Jerry & Sherri who run the RV Park; Bob & Betty who we 1st met at Valley Vista 2 years ago, again near Denver in Sept 08; Ron & Doris who we met in Rockport, TX winter of 2005! One day we drove to Green Valley to visit Long Lake friends Jim & Betty, another day of getting caught up with "all the news".
Apr 17 we stopped overnight in Deming, NM, a chance to visit with former Long Lake friends, Bob & Sharon, and have dinner. So good to see them again.
4 days on the road, and we arrived in Lewisville, TX, and after getting settled down, able to have dinner with Deb, John, Sara & Cami last night. Like their new house. We are here for 6 days, so a chance to relax after covering over 1500 miles. Hopefully, I will find time to post some pictures soon.
Sad news: Over the past 8 years, we have had a chance to meet up with Cousin Jim & LaVon, and spend some time camping with them. We have visited Quartzsite, Organ Pipe Cactus Nat'l Monument, Casa Grande, and St David, AZ., also met up with them in Michigan the summer of 2008. Good times. Sat, the 10th, we drove to Payson to visit, Jim had just come home from the hospital, was on oxygen. We had a Great, but short, visit. Tuesday, we received word that Jim had passed away. Our hearts go out to LaVon, and the family. Jim will be sorely missed.
That's all for today, stay tuned.

Update, Misc.
Wow, only 2 weeks of work left! Have been working extra hours past 3 weeks, covering for Adam who is doing his National Guard training. Extra money will help pay for crossing the USA.
Went to see Avatar in 3 D yesterday. First movie in a theater for quite a while for us. Enjoyed the movie, the special effects were Fantastic! Can highly recommend it.
Itinerary for next couple of months is in the right column, most reservations have been made, we are really looking forward to getting back "On The Road Again".
March Madness seems to be in full swing, lots of upsets in the 1st 2 rounds of the Tournament!
By the time most of you read this, we will know how the Healthcare vote went. I can't ever recall so many "deals" being made to pass legislation as there appears to be this time. Many of them seem to be questionable legally, and we may "never" know some of them. Really shady politics as far as I am concerned.

The New Health Care Bill
Let me get this straight.....We're trying to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a President that also hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a Treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, all to be overseen by a Surgeon General who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke.
What the hell could possibly go wrong?

Say A Prayer
Little Johnny & his family were having Sunday dinner at his Grandparent's house. Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served. When Little Johnny received his plate, he started eating right away.
"Johnny! Please wait until we say our Prayer" said his mother. "I don't need to," the boy replied.
"Of course, you do" his mother insisted. "We always say a prayer before eating at our house."
"That's at our house." Johnny explained. "But this is Grandma's house, and she knows how to cook!"

Investment Tips for 2010
With all the turmoil in the market today and the collapse of Lehman Bros. and acquisition of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America this might be some good advice. For all of you with any
money left, be aware of the next expected mergers so that you can get in on the ground floor and make some BIG bucks.
Watch for these consolidations later this year:
1. Hale Business Systems, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Fuller Brush, and W R. Grace Co. Will merge and become: Hale, Mary, Fuller, Grace.
2. Polygram Records, Warner Bros., and Zesta Crackers join forces and become: Poly, Warner Cracker.
3. 3M will merge with Goodyear and become: MMM Good.
4. Zippo Manufacturing, Audi Motors, Dofasco, and Dakota Mining will merge and become: ZipAudiDoDa.
5. FedEx is expected to join its competitor, UPS, and become: FedUP.
6. Fairchild Electronics and Honeywell Computers will become: Fairwell Honeychild.
7. Grey Poupon and Docker Pants are expected to become: Poupon Pants.
8. Knotts Berry Farm and the National Organization of Women will become: Knott NOW!
And finally...
9. Victoria 's Secret and Smith &Wesson will merge under the new name:

Don't Mess With Old People
George, an elderly man, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.
He phoned the police, who asked "is someone in your house?"
He said "No, but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me."
The police dispatcher said "All patrols are busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available." George said, "Okay."
He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot and killed them both, the dogs are eating them right now." And he hung up.
Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up, and caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to George, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

Don't mess with old people!

NEW NEWS!
So in 2 months, it will start to get HOT in Las Vegas, and we don't need HOT. So what to do? Well, in our case, we make plans to head North? Well, yes, sort of. How about Northeast?
Yep! We have agreed to be Workampers at Pine Acres Resort, Oakham, Mass. We will be about 50 miles west of Boston. Since we have never been in that part of the USA, this is our chance to see some more of our great country. We should be able to do day & weekend trips, as our work week will be 30 hours or so. We are excited about this opportunity. And our good friends, Rick & Pam will be there too! How cool is that!
Our schedule is not set yet, we need to be at Pine Acres May 15, so expect to leave Las Vegas early April, chance to stop and see family & friends on the way. Next fall?, still up in the air, but a good chance we could head south, before returning to the SW.
As we firm up our travel plans, we will post them. If anyone has suggestions, requests, etc., please let us know.

I'M BACK!
I've been bad! Between work, trips to Yuma (actually Mexico) to visit Dentist and visit friends, and Farming!, our Blog has really suffered. Oh, and Rich & I have watched a fair amount of FOOTBALL. I have noticed that many others have also been BAD!
We did take the trailer to Pilot Knob (west of Yuma) for 2 weeks early Dec, had lots of fun with Rick & Pam, Jerry & Karen. Christmas we had breakfast at Leslie's, and dinner with Leslie's family at her sister Carol's. New Year's Eve was spent at Mandalay Bay, drinking & listening to "THE FAB" at the open bar in the middle of the Casino. That was fun! We actually have not spent much time gambling in the casinos.
Weather has been decent, although we did have a lot of rain a couple weeks ago. More rain in 4 days than Vegas got in all of 2009! Now, 1.79 inches isn't much rain for many people, but in Las Vegas, it means flooding. Shoot, in Michigan, the ground would just soak up that much in a day. It is already getting into the 60's, I'm riding the scooter to work, and all is good for now.
So, at least a posting. Check back tomorrow for another post with some NEW NEWS! But now, it's time to get ready for work.
